He was predeceased by: his parents, C. Erwin Paulsen (Carl) and Gladys Paulsen; his son Douglas; and his siblings, Eunice Scholten and Ben.
He is survived by: his children, Lorie Schmitz (Tom) and Lisa Pickard (Jeff); his wife Janet; and his stepchildren, Lisa Zaloudek (Dan), Jody Ellis (Linda), Emily Ellis and Wade Ellis (Vicki). He is also survived by 16 grandchildren, many many great grandchildren, and 1 great, great grandchild.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Tunnels to Towers Foundation or Thanksgiving Church, Bellevue, Nebraska in Merle Paulsen's honor.
