He was predeceased by: his parents, Paul C. Briest and Elsie R. Ranker (Briest); and his stepfather Arthur Ranker. He is survived by: his wife Marilyn J. Briest; his stepson Allan Gulke; his grandson Nick Gulke; his children, Stephen Briest (Theresa), Ronald Briest and Linda Otten (Allen); his grandchildren, Cherish Geiger (Brett), Julie Otten, Daniel Briest (Terri), Matthew Briest (Magdelena), Mark Otten (Kayla) and Robert Briest; his great grandchildren, Isabella Geiger, Kayla Otten, Taylor Otten and Connor Stephens; and his stepchildren, Joanne Drew, Janice Gulke (Frank Yasunaga), Dennis Gulke and Brian Gulke (Sharon). He is also survived by several step-grandchildren and step-great-granchildren.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, September 28th 2026 from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM at the Omaha National Cemetery (14250 Schram Rd, Omaha, NE 68138). A memorial gathering will be held on Monday, September 28th 2026 at 2:00 PM.
