He was predeceased by: his parents, Everett Sternberg and Thelma Sternberg (Presley); his wife Mary; his son Steven Sternberg; and his daughter-in-law Jennifer Sternberg.

He is survived by: his daughters, Emily Sternberg and Rebecca Sternberg (Paul Gill); his grandchildren, Isaac Gill, Sloane Gill and Violet Sternberg; and his sister Carol Bryant. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and other loving family and friends.
