He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Mahony and Katherine Mahony (Babbitt); his daughter Jill Mikkelson; and his siblings, Maureen Rohde, Mary Jo Gallager, Karen Ramold, Pauline Carr, Patrick Mahony and Sister Colleen Mahony.

He is survived by: his wife Kim Mahony of O'Neill; his children, Cyndy Pfeiffer of Herman, NE, Aimy Mahony (Bob Adair) of Wagner, SD, Marny Plog of Omaha and Curt Mahony of O'Neill; his stepchildren, Travis Reiter of Kearney, Heather Landauer of Albion, Tosha Murdock (Shawn) of Ericson and Tyler Reiter (Makayla) of Ericson; his siblings, Bette Boyle of O'Neill, Charlene Boyle of Lincoln, Charles Mahony (Diane) of Spalding, Aggie Halverson (Paul) of Utah, Rosemary Cooley of Missouri, Kevin Mahony (Patty) of Inman and Theresa Parker (Gary) of Kansas; and his parents-in-law, Sandra Madsen of Neligh and Jerry Horwart of Ericson. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren; 10 step grandchildren; seven great grandchildren.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, May 21st 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Biglin's Mortuary (111 N 3rd St, O'Neill, NE 68763). A rosary was held on Wednesday, May 21st 2025 at 7:00 PM at the same location. A funeral Mass was held on Thursday, May 22nd 2025 at 10:30 AM at the St. Patrick's Catholic Church (330 E Benton St, O'Neill, NE 68763). A graveside service was held on Thursday, May 22nd 2025 at 11:30 AM at the O'Neill Cemetery.
