He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Papstein and Emma Papstein (Hank); his siblings, Gus Papstein, LaVonne Coventry and Lyle Papstein; and his granddaughter Barrett Schmidt.
He is survived by: his wife Helen; his daughter Linda Schmidt; his son-in-law Donald Schmidt, Jr.; his grandchildren, Rylan and Harper Schmidt; his siblings, Virgil Papstein, Stella Denbo (Randy) and Marie Hafferman; and his sisters-in-law, Betty Zechmann and Mary Ann Casey.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 27th 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on Tuesday, October 28th 2025 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM. A vigil service will be held on Monday, October 27th 2025 at 7:00 PM at the McKown Funeral Home (2922 13th St, Columbus, NE 68601). A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, October 28th 2025 at 10:30 AM at the St. Stanislaus Catholic Church (1120 8th St, Duncan, NE 68634).
In lieu of plants and flowers memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.
