He was predeceased by: his parents, Elmer Maas and LaVerne Maas (Bargstadt); his wife Norene Norberg Kolterman; and his siblings-in-law, Steve Blank and Candy Maas.

He is survived by: his sons, Brian (Deb), Rick (Sandy) and Chad (Jody); his stepchildren, Brent Kolterman (Jennie) and Teresa Wales (Collin); his grandchildren, Nathan Maas, Becca Maguire (Nick), Tyler Maas, Max, Mason, Myles, Maggie Maas, Callie Ruge (Branden), Luke (Brittany), Sam, Derrick Kolterman (Juliet), Rayann, Corbin, Tate and Tara Wales; his great grandchildren, Holden Maguire, Riley, Emma Kuhl, Joyanna Ruge and Sutton Kolterman; his siblings, Sharolyn Buss (Billy), Jim Maas (Marian), Tom Maas and Linda Blank; and his sister-in-law Sandra Roth (Bill). He is also survived by nieces, nephews.
