He was predeceased by: his parents, Charlie Johannsen and Hazle Johannsen; his parents-in-law, Rufus and Hazel Renken; his siblings, Frank Johannsen and Mildred Schwindt; his siblings-in-law, Robert Renken, Paul Renken, Tootie Johannsen and Ida Belle Renken; his nephew Bruce Johannsen; his great-nephew William Johannsen; and his niece Nada Renken.
He is survived by: his wife Ellen Marie Renken of Mitchell; his daughters, Susan Hooper (Dave) of Council Bluffs, Sherri Cargile (Ed) of Mitchell and Sandra Bowker (Oliver) of Bayard, Nebraska; his grandchildren, Andrea Hooper, Sean Cargile (Elizabeth), Paige McGhghy (Cody) and Damien Bowker; his great grandchildren, Jessie and Kelsey McGhghy; his grandchildren, Nora, Owen Cargile, Noah O'Nele (Ella) and Shaylee O'Nele; his great great grandchild Olive O'Nele; his sister-in-law Dee Renken of Bridgeport, Nebraska; and his close friend Pearl Johnson of Denver, Colorado.. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 16th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the St. John's Lutheran Church (2220 Broadway, Scottsbluff, NE 69361). A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 16th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the same location. The military honors will be held on Friday, October 16th 2026 at 2:30 PM at the Fairview Cemetery (4109 5th Ave, Scottsbluff, NE 69361).
It is respectfully requested that in lieu of any flowers, memorials in Charles's honor be made in care of the church or the Western Nebraska Veteran's Home.
