He was predeceased by: his wife Betty Lou Brackhan; and his brothers, Robert, Herb, Charlie, Gene and Don.

He is survived by: his son Rick (Sue Downing) of Lincoln; his grandchildren, Benjamin Downing and Hanna Ostrander (Grant); his great grandchildren, Ezekiel, Shelby Riedman, Grace Riedman and Allison Riedman; his granddaughter Anita Downing-Hueftle (Neil) of Cozad; his great grandchildren, Anson Hueftle (Joleen), Aaron Hueftle (Shae), Brenda Downing-Farber (Jerry) of Ashland, Linda Downing-Mann (Garrett) of Burwell and Joann Downing-King of Seward; his sisters-in-law, Ruth Downing, Roena Downing and Shirley Downing; his close friends, Chad King, Cid and Chris Beckler; his friend Cheryl Zumpfe of Seward; Charlotte, Isaac Hueftle (Lindsay Warning), Tristin, Kayla, Joshua, Blake, Carter, Avery, Laurel Mann and Alex King. He is also survived by seven nieces.
