He was predeceased by: his parents, Donald Garris and Ila Ruth Garris (Gooch); his wife Norma Jean "Bridge" Higgins; and his brother Gerald Garris. He is survived by: his children, Vicki Mandery (Dave) of Tecumseh, Dave Garris (Pat) of Nebraska City, Jerry Garris (Arnette) of Lincoln, Sheila Reed (Jim) of Tecumseh, Tom Garris (Lori) of Raymond and Tim Garris (Tracy) of Oswego, KS; and his grandchildren, Mike Mandery (Dea), Laura Kroll (Bob), Kathy Swanda, Matt Garris (Erica), Zac Garris (Mandi), Josh Garris (Chrissy), Corey Garris (Cyndia), Meggan Garris, Mark Reed, Ann Britt (Brian), Tyler Garris and Ethan Garris. He is also survived by 22 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
