He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas Tvrdy and Maurice Tvrdy (Mara); his wife June Tvrdy (Wilson); his daughter Deborah Foster; his grandchildren, Melissa and Mikey Hughes; and his brother Thomas Tvrdy.

He is survived by: his children, Rhonda Hughes (Wally) of Lincoln, Kathy Molinaro (David) of Lincoln, Jody Fischer (Scott) of Lincoln, Douglas Tvrdy (Julie) of Waverly and Kevin Tvrdy of Waverly. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 1 great, great grandchild.

Visitation was held on Thursday, September 11th 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Butherus, Maser & Love Funeral Home (4040 A St, Lincoln, NE 68510). A rosary was held on Thursday, September 11th 2025 from 7:00 PM to 7:45 PM at the same location. A Mass of Christian burial was held on Friday, September 12th 2025 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at the St Patrick Catholic Church (6120 Morrill Ave, Lincoln, NE 68507).

Memorial donations may also be made to St. Patrick's Catholic Church, where John was a long-time parishioner.
