He was predeceased by: his parents, John J. Barnes and Janetta Barnes (Howatt); and his sisters, Marjorie Luti, Pauline Griffin and Mary Piccirilli.

He is survived by: his wife Kathleen J. Barnes (McNally) of Manchester, NH; his sons, Stephen M. Barnes (Deborah) of Plymouth, MA, John R. Barnes (Rossana) of Virginia Beach, VA, Daniel J. Barnes (Nancy) of Bedford, MA and Paul E. Barnes of Attleboro, MA; his grandchildren, Adam, Nichole, Amanda, Allison, Ryan, Meghan, Lauren and Christian; and his siblings, Charles Barnes (Eunice) of Amherst, NH and Margaret Donahue of Quincy, MA. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
