He was predeceased by: his parents, John J. McCarthy Sr. and Mary E. McCarthy (Murray); and his brother Lawrence Kieran McCarthy. He is survived by: his cousins, Rev. Charles E. Bourke, Jr., Mary, Jim Ledwith, Patricia B. Byrne and Tracey.
John expressed his desire to have the 11th Armored Cavalry's Veterans of Vietnam and Cambodia Scholarship Program to be his charity of choice for those wishing to donate.
