Richard G. St. Cyr Obituary
Richard G. St. Cyr, 85, of Manchester, NH and formally of Gloucester Mass, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2022, after battling Alzheimer's disease and dementia for many years.
Richard was born on September 20, 1936, in Lynn, Massachusetts and was the youngest son to Leo and Alliette (Plourde) St. Cyr. Richard was a graduate of St. Jean de Baptiste Catholic School in Lynn. After graduating he entered the trades and learned the business of sign making from his dad. He served his country and community as a member of the Army National Guard for 23 years. He met his wife Carol as she attended nursing school at Lynn hospital, and they were married on February 21, 1960. She was truly the love of his life for sixty-two years. They moved to Gloucester Mass and started their family where Richard worked for Aptt's Oil Service. Richard then used his talents and entered the sign making business, working as a sign fabricator and crane operator for Salem Sign Co. in Salem Mass for over 30 years. When the company closed, Richard started his own sign business which he ran successfully until his retirement. He took great pride in his work and could point out every sign he had installed throughout New England. His talent for fixing and building things on his own were legendary. If he couldn't fix it, it couldn't be fixed.
Richard (or "Dick" as he was known to friends) was involved in the Gloucester community for many years. He was a life member of the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks through which he participated in many charitable causes. Richard was elected to the Gloucester school committee where he served proudly and was the vice-chairman for many years. Richard was instrumental in organizing a celebration of the 100th anniversary of Army JROTC at Gloucester High School in 1985. He chaired and was a member of several of the organizing committees which reunited generations of Gloucester High School JROTC alumni for a truly unforgettable celebration for those involved. Richard was very giving and was a good friend and neighbor to all that knew him.
