He was predeceased by: his parents, Isaac Traffie and Jennie Traffie (Pyhala); his children, Matthew Paul, Christopher and Lisa Niemela; his children-in-law, Daniel Olson and Kara; his brother Daniel (Darlene Traffie); his sisters-in-law, Rhonda Traffie (Wayne) and Jill Traffie (Matthew); his sister Sophie (Steve Frost); and his brother-in-law Steve Matson (Nancy).
He is survived by: his wife Katherine; his children, Karina (Jim Seppanen), Carl (late Kara Seppala), Laura, Sara (late Daniel Olson), Julia, Erik Niemela (late Lisa), Eva (Ed Sauvola), Brenda (Chester Rhoades), Cynthia (Todd Whitney), Jonathan (Stephanie), Timothy (Leona), Mark (Krysia), Ted (Beth) and James; and his siblings, Al (Kathy), Susan, Jack (Arlene), Ernie (Marti), Wayne, Matthew, James (Judy) and Nancy Matson. He is also survived by 70 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren.
