He was predeceased by: his former wife Ruth Secord; his son Joseph D. Hayes 3rd; and his son-in-law Jack Zorski. He is survived by: his wife Sarah Tolson Hayes (Sally); his children, Michael Hayes of Phnom Penh and Elizabeth Zorski of East Falmouth, MA; and his stepchildren, Richard Stram (Beth) of Stowe, Vt., Donna Stram (Chris McClure) of Dunstable, MA and Diana Stram (Mark Anderson) of Girdwood, Alaska..
