He was predeceased by: his brother Kevin Peter Connell; his daughter Rachel Avery Connell; and his stepdaughter Corene Anne McGovern. He is survived by: his wife Linda McGovern Connell; his daughter Elizabeth Connell Nielsen (Devan); his stepdaughter Gail McGovern Gulotta (Geno); his nephew Keper Connell; and his brother Anthony James Connell (Marion Fitch Connell). He is also survived by six grandchildren.
