He was loved and cherished by many people including : his parents, Carol Shipp and Michael D. Smith Sr.; his children, Olivia Smith (Marco D'Alfonso) of Windham and Michael D. Smith III of Lowell; his close friend Kimberley Houde-Smith of Windham; his sisters, Kim Kressler (Bill Kressler) of Hanson and Nancy Candelora (Lenny Candelora) of Plymouth; and his pet Mousse. He was also cherished by several nieces and nephews.
