She was predeceased by: her parents, Sara Elizabeth (Mathews) and Charles Layton Scruggs; her husband Gerald F. Thompson; her sisters, Delores Sheppard and Betty Pollard; her uncle William Mathews; and her nephew Billy Davis, Jr..
She is survived by: her children, Audrea Denise Francine, Robert Umar Kelsey (Terri), Muhammad Ahmad (Sandra), Robin S. Kelsey (Jamie) and Charles Mubarak Kelsey (Marcella); her sisters, Frances Scruggs Thornhill and Audrey Scruggs (Hill); her daughter Eileen Higgs (Larry); and her friend Christine Johnson. She is also survived by seventeen grandchildren; twenty-three great grandchildren.
