With heavy hearts, we announce the death of John R. McCarthy of Avenel, New Jersey, born in Jersey City, New Jersey, who passed away on December 10, 2023 at the age of 81. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was predeceased by : his parents, Margaret McCarthy and Frederick McCarthy; his granddaughter Tara McCarthy; and his siblings, Barbara McCarthy, William and Robert McCarthy.

He is survived by : his wife Marilyn O'Brien McCarthy; his children, Donna McCarthy of Colonia, Laura McCarthy of Colonia, David McCarthy (Lisa) of Somerset, Brian McCarthy of Avenel and John McCarthy (Denise) of South Amboy; his siblings, Thomas McCarthy of Sayreville, Frederick McCarthy of Old Bridge and Marilyn Iorio of Kearney; his grandchildren, Courtney, Brian, Meaghan, Samantha, Michael and Jake; his great grandchild Mia; and his stepgrandchildren, Georgie and Shane.

In lieu of flowers contributions to Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital (stjude.org) in Mr. McCarthy's memory would be greatly appreciated by his family.
