He was predeceased by: his wife Harriet (Parnell); and his sisters, Hazel Evanoff and Eleanor Handelong. He is survived by: his brother Harry Pierson of Florida; his sibling's children, Richard Pierson, Christine Pierson, Karen Hall (Handelong) and Lorie Beckwith (Handelong); his great-nephew Thomas; his great-nieces, Lisa Marie and Jessica; and his friends, Leslie, Mike and Erin Davidson.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Bernardsville Fire Company.
