John Andrew Leddie Obituary

John Andrew Leddie, lifelong union carpenter and resident of Glen Gardner, passed away unexpectedly on April 16, 2019, at the age of 58 while in his home.

John was born and raised in Woodbridge, NJ. He moved to Perth Amboy to start his family with his wife, then later moved to Glen Gardner where he would reside for the remainder of his life. John was a proud, master carpenter of Local Union 65, which after multiple mergers, is now known as Local 254. John was a perfectionist and was known for the pride he took in his craft, and the impressive quality of his work.

John was the son of James McLaren Leddie, of Glasgow, Scotland. James was the Private of the 7th Battalion, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, as part of the British Army. John was fascinated by his father’s Scottish heritage and culture, and thoroughly enjoyed attending World War II reenactments with his father.

John had many hobbies and activities that he loved, which included: riding his Harley, snowmobiling, bicycling, and kayaking. John was a stickler regarding oil changes and routine upkeep. He would grill his kids about keeping a logbook in their glove box and having them drop by for routine oil changes and maintenance; he proudly kept the shelves in his garage stocked with a variety of filters and oil. John was considered the unofficial mayor of multiple municipalities, and any newcomer to the neighborhood was greeted with a big welcome. He looked forward to attending church every Sunday and studying the bible with his mens group. John also adored Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and could be caught over-indulging after dinner on occasion.

John loved spending time with his family more than anything else. He was a devoted, loyal husband and father who doted on his children. John was always willing to lend a hand and cared about everyone around him. He went out of his way without expecting accolades in return. He followed through on every promise or expectation that he set and did so with a smile.

John is survived by his wife, Donna Leddie; his son and his wife, John Garrett Leddie and Caitlin Jennifer Leddie; his daughter Erika Katherine Leddie; and his sisters Kathleen Petersen and Lynn Loy. He is also survived by his many loving in laws, nieces, and nephews.

Wake arrangements have been made for Monday April 22, 2019 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m., at Coughlin Funeral Home- 15 Academy St, Califon, NJ 07830.
