Steve Dean wrote a sympathy message

“"I was fortunate enough to have been Dan's roommate at the US Naval Academy. Dan, always an inspiration to me, was a hard worker with a smile on his face and a kind word for others. He encouraged all of us to be better men, merely by his example of how he conducted himself. He was funny, warm, loyal and authentic. As a Marine Aviator and later as an industry executive Dan excelled. Rest in peace my friend, classmate and patriot. You made many lives better". Steve Dean USNA '73 the 7th Company”

Royce Engler wrote a sympathy message

“One of my favorite stories about Dan occurred when we were plebes at the Naval Academy. There was an upperclassman from North Carolina who seemed to have it in for us. He and Dan were two people separated by a common language. One afternoon, during a "training" session, the 2/c yelled out "McHale, give me a pen". Dan didn't miss a beat, and said "Sir, did you mean a P-E-N or a P-I-N". We all laughed and were promptly rewarded with a lot of physical exertion. Rest in Peace, Classmate.”

Tom Reid wrote a sympathy message

“A former Marine and a Naval Academy graduate, I'm gonna bet that Dan was loved by all who knew him. He was quick to smile or laugh and generally slow to anger. Dan was more likely to visit an ailing "7th Company Sea Dog" brother to cheer them up than he was to let them know he was ailing. We'll all miss him terribly and I'll continue to keep him and Nancy in my prayers until I see him again in the Great Beyond.”
