He was predeceased by: his parents, James Cooney and Anna Cooney; and his brothers, Carl, Fred and Jim.
He is survived by: his spouse Shirley Watson Cooney; his sons, Robert "Bob" John Cooney (Chrissy) and James "Jim" Cooney; and his grandchildren, Lauren, Cati and Arianna. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
