He was predeceased by: his siblings, Robert, Joan and John. He is survived by: his wife Elaine McKelvey; his children, Thomas McKelvey (Chris), Mary Ann Hash (Jeff), Patricia Quinn (Jack), Elaine J. McKelvey, Michael McKelvey (Lorie), Christopher McKelvey, David McKelvey (John Weichel) and Joyce Ferry (Mark); and his siblings, Rita Allgauer (late Emil) and Jerry McKelvey (Anne). He is also survived by 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson.
