Erik Farley wrote a sympathy message

“Rick was one of the first people I met at Chemical Abstracts Service, back in the 80s, in the Organic Chemistry Department. We used to love to talk about languages and history. My trainer introduced him to me as an expert in many subjects. He was so friendly and full of interesting information. He was a good analyst, and cared about both people and the job. It was a privilege to have known him.”
