It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Joseph Michael Hitzell III of Clinton, New Jersey, who passed away on September 18, 2023, at the age of 87, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by : his parents, Edith Hitzel and Joseph M Hitzel Jr.; his brothers, John Ludlow Hitzel and Edward Raymond Hitzel; and his daughter-in-law Martha Thober Hitzel (Joseph IV).

He is survived by : his wife Georgeann Hitzel (Whitehill); his children, Joseph Hitzel IV (Jennifer) of Fountain Hills, AZ, Dr. George Hitzel (Alison) of St. Petersburg, FL, Susan Welch (Ralph Ruffolo) of Glen Gardner, NJ, John Hitzel (Laurie) of Richmond, TX and Simeon Hitzel (Janet) of Johns Creek, GA; and his grandchildren, Janaya, Joseph V, Michael, Miranda, Nicholas, Kaitlyn, Jonathan, Savannah, Alexandra, Geneva, Patrick, Jillian, Amy, Alyssa, Andrew III, Everett, Makailyn, Eloise, Athena and William. He is also survived by his family and friends.

Visitation was held on Thursday, September 21st 2023 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Martin Funeral Home (1761 NJ-31, Clinton, NJ 08809). A mass of christian burial was held on Friday, September 22nd 2023 at 11:00 AM at the St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church (32 Main St, Hampton, NJ 08827).
