He was predeceased by: his parents, Luke Rooney and Nellie Rooney; and his siblings, Rita Rooney and Luke Rooney. He is survived by: his wife Edith Nanke; his son Gavin Jr.; his daughter-in-law Diane; and his grandsons, Liam, Kieran and Logan.
