He was predeceased by: his parents, Dr. John B. Townsend and Edna Sonenwald King; his stepparents, Matilda Boose Townsend and Judge Franklin King; his brother Dr. John B. Townsend, Jr.; and his great grandchild Julian Tarves.
He is survived by: his wife Joanne; his children, Mark of Mullica Hill, John of Estell Manor, Linda (Rob Aponte) of St. Cloud and Laura (Gavin Taormina) of Sinking Spring, Pennsylvania; his stepsons, Robert Gillinder (Kristy) of Pflugerville and Michael DeFranco (Anne Shuniak) of West Chester, Pennsylvania.; his grandchildren, Jessica Tarves of Houston, Texas, Shannon Tarves of Marmora, Kyle Townsend of Ocean City, Brooke Townsend of Richmond, Virginia and Katelyn Zubey of Sinking Spring, Pennsylvania; his stepgrandchildren, Isabella Gillinder of Pflugerville, Texas and Noah Gillinder of Pflugerville, Texas; and his pet Molly.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 20th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM at the Central United Methodist Church (5 Marvin Ave, Linwood, NJ 08221). A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 20th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
