He was predeceased by: his parents, William Gerding and Olga Gerding; and his sister Barbara Kurst. He is survived by: his wife Patricia Gerding; his children, Bill Gerding, Shelley Miller, Nick Gerding and Abby Gerding; his grandchildren, Avery Miller and Isabelle Campbell; and his sisters, Deborah Malone and Christine Schreiner.
He retired after making significant contributions to numerous projects and forming several lifelong friendships.
