He is survived by : his wife Denise Chew; his sister Debora Eckert (Harry); and his children, Dana Chew, Cliff Higbee (Hillary), Michelle Sheppard, TJ Sheppard and Gabrielle Horseman. He is also survived by five grandsons; one granddaughter; one niece; and one nephew.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that donations may be made in Doug's memory to Project K-9 Hero, 309 Bear Pen Rd., Whitwell, TN 37397.

“Dear Dear Denise and family, please accept our heartfelt sympathy and condolences. We are so saddened by Doug's passing. We looked forward to seeing him this summer. He was a great person, a guy who was always ready to help. We are going to miss seeing him on the riding mower, waving to us, and giving a BIG HELLO! We prayed for him all these weeks.
