John Scharff wrote a sympathy message

“All who were lucky enough to have know Al say the same thing. He was a wonderful man who placed his family, his personal realationships and his students above all else. He would say; " No two ways about it!" Al was a loyal friend and mentor to me in many positive ways. I am a better person to day because of Al and I thank him for that. He often spoke about his family during our Del. trips and local shopping stops and lunches at Sweet Lou's. I will miss my pal Al like so many others. May you RIP”
