He was predeceased by: his father George D. Smullen; and his brother Paul D. Smullen. He is survived by: his mother Beatrice V. Matick; his wife Rosemarie Smullen; his children, Joshua and Mary; and his siblings, Kay (Fred Golden), Judith (Bob Bloxham), Michelle (Michael Matick), Alan (Denise Smullen) and Anthony (Marianna Matick). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family will be accepting donations that will go towards their children's college fund.
