He was predeceased by: his parents, Benjamin Heister and Gloria Heister; and his brother Benjamin E. Heister, Jr.. He is survived by: his wife Lois D. Heister; his children, Stephen B. Heister, Jr. (Pam) and Jeanette Shoemaker (Garrett); and his grandchildren, Braydon, Kayla Heister, Rhya and Grayson Shoemaker.
