He was predeceased by: his parents, Norman Leif Birkland and Julianna Antal Birkland; and his cousin Richard Birkland. He is survived by: his wife Anne; his children, Jennifer, Julianna "Julie" and Owen; his sister Audrey Birkland; and his cousins, Nancy Bussinger (Scott) and Bob Birkland (Jane).
