He is survived by: his wife Elizabeth Carr (Betty); his children, Eileen Griffin of South Plainfield and Gene Washington Jr. (Lisa) of Avenel; his grandchildren, Caitlin, Riley Griffin, Preston Kenney and Mason Washington; and his siblings, Ellen Sullivan, Mary Matthews, Kathy Blaha, James, Michael and Larry Washington. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
