Martha Jane Eaglesham Obituary

Martha Jane Eaglesham, 83, of Island Heights, NJ, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, July 10, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Harrisburg, PA, Martha grew up in New Cumberland and graduated from New Cumberland High School.

Martha graduated from Columbia University, earning a bachelor's degree and later returned to Columbia to earn a master's degree in Nursing.

Martha married the love of her life, Robert Eaglesham, and they lived in Bloomfield, NJ before moving to Montclair, NJ. They planned to retire in Island Heights and moved there in 1998.

She was a Registered Nurse who worked for various health care facilities throughout New Jersey, including Mountainside Hospital, the Public Health Departments in Montclair and Hoboken, and Bergen Pines Hospital.

Martha was an active member of the Island Heights United Methodist Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir, teaching Vacation Bible School, leading the adult Bible Study, and helping with the food pantry.

She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Eaglesham, her parents Raymond and Mary Altland, and her brother William Altland.

Martha is survived by her son David Eaglesham of Connecticut, her daughter Laura Hollyer and son-in-law Rick of Union Twp, NJ, her sister Nancy Teng of Odenton, MD, three grandchildren, Grant, Faith, and Bryce Hollyer, and three nieces and nephews, Ann Cole and Michael & James Altland.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, July 16, 2023 from 4:00pm – 7:00pm at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, 145 St. Catherine Blvd., Toms River. A funeral service will be offered on Monday, July 17, 2023 at 11:00am at the Island Heights United Methodist Church, 111 Ocean Ave., Island Heights, NJ. Burial to follow at the New Jersey Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Wrightstown, NJ.
