With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Peggy Bendel (Island Heights, New Jersey), born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, who passed away on January 10, 2019. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

She was loved and cherished by many people including: her husband John Bendel; her children, Berne Bendel and Thomas Bendel (Lisa); and her sister Nancy Bischoff (Dave).

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations be made to Christ Lutheran Church Parking Lot Fund, 40 Schoolhouse Road, Whiting, NJ 08759.

Peggy Bendel wrote a sympathy message

“This may seem an odd message, since I never met Peggy, but we shared something very personal - our name, which I discovered when I started my own business (www.BendelCommunications.com) in 2009, and was amused to see we shared a Jersey connection, too. I grew up in Cranford and Westfield, then lived in Scotch Plains with my late first husband Norman Bendel. I was taken aback when I learned of her death via a Google Alert this morning (I have an alert on my name for business purposes) and discovered we shared our "official" first and last names, too - my birth certificate says Margaret Jeanne - and that Bendel was a married name for both of us. We were also close in age: I'm 75 and will be 76 in May. My condolences to her family and friends: I know she was a talented quilter and author, and based on her name alone, can only assume she was a wonderful person!”
