We are sad to announce that on April 17, 2020 we had to say goodbye to John O'Brien (Linden, New Jersey), born in Elizabeth, New Jersey. You can send your sympathy in the guestbook provided and share it with the family.

He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter O'Brien and Theresa O'Brien (Lombardi); his wife Anna McGowan; and his siblings, Anthony, Walter, Thomas (Porky), Dorothy Sohler, Anna Kelly, Theresa Kosser and Katherine O'Brien.

He is survived by: his children, Anne (Steve), Mary Ellen, John (Monica) and Michael; his grandsons, Connor and Dylan; his siblings, Edward and Margaret Raffa (Joseph); his siblings-in-law, Carole O'Brien, Marie O'Brien, Maureen Beenders, Joyce McGowan, Patricia Kauffman (Larry) and Rick McGowan (Alison); and his godchildren, Barbara Gabello and Sean Kauffman. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers donations to St. John the Apostle R.C. Church, 1805 Penbrook Terrace, Linden, NJ 07036 or to your charity of choice in his memory would be appreciated.

“I don't remember any part of my life that John ( hereafter known as Chisel ) wasn't a part of. He adored my sister and their children. He brought laughter and support everywhere he went, and any room he walked into lit up with enthusiasm. Doesn't feel right with this crisis going on to not be able to memorialize him as the Obrien's and McGowan's all too often have done with others in the past. Thank you Chis, for a lifetime of memories, and may you carry on and bring joy wherever you are.”

“I will truly miss Johnny at the 10:30 mass at St. John's. If there was ever anyone who defined "welcome", it was Johnny. He was one of a kind, and his greetings were filled with warmth and kindness. I admired his dedication to God's people and the joy that he brought to those who walked in. It was my privilege to serve with him.
