He was predeceased by : his father Joseph Avola Sr.; and his siblings, Salvatore "Sam" Avola and Marion Blanos. He is survived by : his daughters, Debra Avola-Aiellos and Karon Avola (David Klopacz); his grandchildren, Michael, Christopher, Douglas and Lexi; and his brother Louis Avola.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the East Orange VA Medical Center Oncology Department. 385 Tremont Ave, East Orange, NJ 07018.
