He was predeceased by: his siblings, James McShane and Ann McAllister. He is survived by: his wife Ruth McShane; his children, Cheryl Abernethy (Ted), William J. McShane II (Suzanne), Eric McShane (Linda) and Christopher McShane (Jennifer); his brother John McShane; and his grandchildren, Brendan, Caili, Aisling, Daniel, Matthew, Michael, Riley and Ashley. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions in William's memory may be made to the National Inventors Hall of Fame (https://www.invent.org), to advance the spirit of American ingenuity by investing in innovative events and making STEM education accessible across the country.
