He was predeceased by: his parents, William C. Hester and Adeline T. Hester (Serubo); and his sisters, Carolyn Hester, Ora Mae Avellino-Carroll, Lauradine Thomas and Roseanne Insogna.

He is survived by: his wife Barbara; his children, Brian Hester (Rebecca Jackson) and Colleen Swanson (John); and his grandsons, John, Jr., Christopher and Matthew Swanson. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions in his memory be made to American Legion Post 524 Scholarship Fund, PO Box 363, Ocean City, NJ 08226.
