He was predeceased by: his mother Sarah "Sally" Stout; his sister Patricia Canavan; and his aunts and uncles, Hugh Boyle, Eleanor Boyle, Anna Mae Joyce and Mickey Boyle.

He is survived by: his wife Robin Lohman Stout; his children, Melissa Crain (John), William Stout (Lauren), Matthew Stout (Megan) and Alan Stout (Melissa); his brothers, Charles and Brian Stout; his grandchildren, Caitlyn, Sydney, Ryan, Owen, Brady, Madelyn, Olivia, Audrey and Willa; and his aunt Eileen. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
