He was predeceased by: his parents, Fredrick Schmidt and Ruth Schmidt; and his brother Fredrick Schmidt. He is survived by: his children, Christopher Schmidt (Kari), Kelly Schmidt (Jeffrey), Elizabeth Schmidt-Muguira, Rebecca Schmidt, Jill McKenna (Christopher), David Corin (Shannon), Karin Bortisser and Michael Ward (Dania); and his siblings, James Schmidt (Donie) and Elzabeth Schmidt.

Donations may be made in David's name to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
