He was predeceased by: his parents, Morris Evans and Alida Evans (Zucker). He is survived by: his wife Arlene S. Shelley; his children, Brian Bates (Louis Carotenuto) of New York, Melissa Robison of Middletown and Marc Bates-Shelley of Marlboro; his grandchildren, Heather Cook, Oscar Robison, Joshua Robison and Oliver Carotenuto; and his great grandchildren, Elliot, Belle and Matthew.
