He was predeceased by: his parents, Leroy Johnson and Nora Bell Johnson (Bell); his sons, Steven and Bruce Johnson; and his siblings, Lawrence (Sarah), Frank (Jane), Ansel (Mildred), Thomas Johnson and Mary Houser (Richard).
He is survived by: his wife Mary Jane; his daughter Sharon Hollinger (Tom); his daughters-in-law, Diane Hanby and Janis Young; his grandchildren, Christopher Hollinger (LaDonna), Melissa Oxendine, Brian Hollinger, Matthew Johnson (Marie) and Kyle Johnson (Katie); his great grandchildren, Trevor Oxendine (Ashley), Rachel Johnson, Wyatt Oxendine, Samantha Johnson, Charlotte, Beckett Johnson, Everett and Greyson Hollinger; his sister Catherine Hurd; and his sister-in-law Joanne Johnson.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Maranatha Baptist Church or Calvary Baptist Fellowship in Art's honor.
