He was predeceased by: his daughter Morgan Gibbs; his father Henry C. Gibbs; and his sister Robin Stansell. He is survived by: his son Eric Gibbs; his mother Joyce L. Thornton; and his siblings, Johnathan Thornton, Debra Gibbs and Ella McDowell. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
