It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Michael Aaron Rockland of Morristown, New Jersey, who passed away on March 22, 2026, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
In the soft embrace of remembrance, we recall the profound impact Michael had on those he encountered along his journey. Though Michael may have slipped beyond the veil of mortality, his essence lingers like a faint fragrance in the air, a lingering reminder of the beauty and complexity of the human experience.
He is survived by: his wife Patricia Ard; and his children, David Rockland, Jeffrey Rockland, Keren McGinity, Kate Gillan and Joshua Rockland. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
Over his career, Michael received numerous teaching and civic awards, including the Mary C. Turpie award for outstanding teaching from the American Studies Association, the Warren L. Susman award for teaching from Rutgers University, and the Richard J. Hughes award for contributions to the public knowledge of New Jersey history.
