He was predeceased by: his parents, Joao Bento Pires Mafaldo and Ana Goncalves of Carvalho. He is survived by: his wife Custodia; his daughter Ana; his sister Ermelinda; and his close friend Maria Fernandes. He is also survived by 16 nieces and nephews.
