He is survived by: his sons, Gilbert G. Costen and Robert N. Benyard Sr. (DeJonna); his grandchildren, Rolando Terrell, Amare Terrell, Kalwaski Benyard, Jeffrey L. Adams, DaJaneshia N. Benyard, Hakim J. Costen, Carnell K. Jefferson, Taniyah A. Tarver, Rickey A. Heard and Kassius Allen; and his great grandchildren, Amare T. Terrell, Monae A. Terrell, Shontrezq Terrell, Khamare Terrell, Jaylen Adams, Aniyah Jones, Christopher Jones, Lailah Adams, Kelsie Jones, Zion Benyard, Camden Adams, Jeffrey Adams, Skylar Burns, Bella Adams, Bradley Benyard, Jordan Heard and Kaiser Jefferson. He is also survived by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his siblings; several nieces and nephews; and a host of cousins, family, and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 24th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Whigham Funeral Home (580 Dr Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Newark, NJ 07102).
