He was predeceased by: his parents, Inacio and Maria; and his siblings, Feliciano Lopes and Maria Jacinto. He is survived by: his wife Rosa of Jesus; and his children, Ana Regateiro (Francisco), Rosalia Ferreira (Jose), Carmen Costa (Joao) and Inacio Lopes (Natalia). He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
